Timeline

1928US Merchant Marine Act passed. It allowed the US government to award contracts for shipping mail overseas and provide subsidies and loans for private companies to operate these services.

The Baltimore Mail Line was founded by a group of Baltimore investors to provide a cargo and mail service between their city and Southampton, London and Hamburg.
1936Cancellation of all US mail contracts under the 1936 Merchant Marine Act. Baltimore Mail Line folded.
