a yellow funnel. Timeline | 1897 | Founded by Hans Niels Andersen to operate services between
Copenhagen, Bangkok and the Far East | | 1900s | The company expands, creating a network of subsidiary companies
serving Russia, Thailand and South Africa | | 1912 | East Asiatic Company (EAC) commissions the world`s first diesel
motor vessel. Over the next four years they convert their fleet of
steamships to diesel-engine motorships | | 1915 | Subsidiary company D/S A/S Orient begins tramp shipping | | 1920s | East Asiatic Co extends services from Copenhagen to South
Africa, Cuba, Australia, Mexico and North Pacific ports | | 1940 | Ships serving the North Pacific route call at New York for the
first time. A stop at Philadelphia was later introduced | | 1969 | Company stops operating passenger ships due to competition from
air travel | | 1970s | EAC is the largest company in Scandinavia and a major owner of
