Timeline

1846Operated a sailing ship between Boston (US) and Montreal (Canada)
1863Commenced steamship sailings
1868Went into liquidation and bought by Thomas Ismay, who formed the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company
1907New York service transferred from Liverpool to Southampton
1912White Star liner Titanic sinks in the Atlantic
1926Oceanic SN Co taken over by Royal Mail Steam Packet Company
1934Royal Mail Group collapsed. White Star bought by Cunard, forming Cunard-White Star Ltd
1947Cunard purchased the remainder of the Cunard-White Star company
The two remaining White Star ships, Georgic and Britannic continued sailing in White Star colours until they were scrapped in 1956 and 1960, respectively
