How to use Lloyd's Register of Ships
Limitations
Until 1886, Lloyd`s Register of Ships listed most
larger British vessels, but only the foreign ones classed by
Lloyd`s Register. Since then, it has attempted to include every
self-propelled, seagoing vessel in the world over 100 gross tons.
Thus, it still omits a number of craft, including inland and
harbour craft, barges and pontoons. For vessels not
in Lloyd`s Register of Ships, see other shipping
registers. To discover the full history of a ship, Lloyd`s
Register of Ships usually needs to be used in conjunction with
information on casualties and demolitions (see wrecks and accidents.)
