How to use Customs registers
Limitations
Customs registers [definition] lack
information about the ship before it is registered and after its
sale to foreign owners. The registers will not provide a launch
date, details of any change of ownership or name before delivery, a
yard number [definition], the names
of breakers, or details of the final voyage if the ship was
lost. For ships owned abroad before their British registration,
the Customs registers give only the former name, its
builder`s name and date. When the registry is closed because a ship is sold abroad, the
only detail recorded is the nationality of the buyers.
