| Unique ID: | 4626 | | Description: | Photograph. Built in 1974 by Aalborg Vaerft A/S at Aalborg, Denmark for Townsend Thoresen. She was the first of Townsend Thoresen's "Super Vikings", being much larger than the first four Viking ferries (Viking 1 - Viking IV). She entered service in January 1975 on the Southampton - Le Havre run, but was later switched to Portsmouth. In 1985-86 she was enlarged to meet the increasing demand for freight space on cross Channel ferries. This process was termed "Jumboisation" and considerably altered the look of the ferry. In 1987 she was acquired by P & O European Ferries, and in 1989 was renamed Pride of Hampshire. She is still in service (2001). She is seen here at berth 7 of the ferry terminal at Princess Alexandra Dock. | | Creator: | Unknown | | Date: | 6/8/1975 | | Copyright: | Associated British Ports plc | | Partner: | SCC Libraries | | Partner ID: | Unknown |
