Rank's Solent Flour Mill, completed in 1934, was the first group of buildings to be erected on the Docks Extension Industrial Estate in the Western Docks. The mills, which are a famous Southampton landmark, occupy an area of over 2 acres. The buildings suffered considerable damage on the night of 30th November, the worst night of the Blitz in Southampton, with the flour mill and warehouse being completely destroyed..
