The Itchen side and the Floating Bridge itself can be glimpsed through the central archway. The toll board is on the left being perused by a prospective passenger. Note also the carriage tracks leading up to the toll house. The Floating Bridge was opened in November 1836. It ran every 15-20 minutes during daylight hours.
