Map of Town Quay and Royal Pier
Southampton has been a major port for centuries. Town Quay was
one of the areas where vessels would moor to trade their goods. In
the 1920s, the area later became home to Southampton`s floating
dock. Passengers for the Channel Islands and Le Havre departed from
the Royal Pier, opened in 1833. The maps in this section show Southampton as it was in 1944. The numbers on the map mark the locations of individual berths.
