Gateway to the World
In the 1930s, Southampton handled nearly half of the UK's ocean-going passenger traffic and millions of tons of cargo - making the port the 'Gateway to the World'. |

Town Quay and Royal Pier
A trading place for centuries, discover Town Quay, the heart of Southampton`s maritime heritage. The town`s pier was the departure point for ferries to the Isle of Wight. The area was also home to flying boats and Southampton`s floating dock. |

Eastern Docks
Southampton`s first dock was opened in 1843. During the next seventy years, the town`s docks grew rapidly to cover a large area, now known as the Eastern Docks. |

Western Docks
The largest single dock expansion scheme in the port`s history opened in 1932. It provided over 2 km of quay space and the country`s largest dry-dock. Learn how the Western Docks rejuvenated Southampton`s port. |
