About LMA
London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) is the largest local
authority record office in the United Kingdom. There are 32 miles
of archives in their strong rooms - an enormous amount of
information about the capital and its people. The records cover a
period of nearly 900 years. A great variety of organisations continue to pass their records
to LMA for safekeeping, including church, legal and other public
and private bodies associated with the port, shipping and related
industries of the metropolis. The LMA is ‘The Memory of London’,
with an extraordinary range of archives touching every aspect of
London Life and history. The LMA aims to provide the best access to the information in
its care and offers a comprehensive enquiry service and the expert
help of its staff to anyone wishing to do research at the
archive. Contact detailsLondon Metropolitan Archive
