Lloyd's Register
About Lloyd`s Register
Lloyd`s Register is an independent risk management organisation
providing risk assessment and risk mitigation solutions and
management systems certification around the world. Founded in 1760
to examine merchant ships and `classify` them according to their
condition, today the organisation`s expertise and activities extend
far wider than the shipping field. In addition to its marine
activities, it has operations covering management systems,
land-based industries, railways, and oil and gas. The Lloyd`s
Register Group has more than 200 offices and over 5000
employees. Through its constitution, Lloyd`s Register is directed `to
secure, for the benefit of the community, high technical standards
of design, manufacture, construction, maintenance, operation, and
performance, for the purpose of enhancing the safety of life and
property both at sea and on land` Since 1764, Lloyd`s Register has published it
annual Register of Ships (sometimes also
called Lloyd`s Registers), and this is still the
foremost source of information on the world merchant fleet, listing
details of every commercial ship from any country over 100gt. It
also publishes other directories, shipping statistics and technical
`rules` for constructing vessels, and several sources are available
online. Contact detailsLloyd`s Register
