About us
Southampton City Archives collects, catalogues and conserves archival material for the City of Southampton. Members of the public are welcome to visit the Archives search room where items in the collection can be consulted. You must also bring a CARN ticket or official proof of address. What's in the Archives:
Records, maps, photos, manuscripts, deeds, voters' lists - starting at 1199 and coming right up to date Visit the reading room
You are welcome to visit the reading room in the heart of Southampton's fine Civic Centre, to consult the materials in the collection. The address is given below. An appointment is not necessary, but you may wish to contact the archivist before your visit, to ensure the information or items you are looking for is held. The search room is accessible to wheelchair users. Hand-magnifiers and lamp-magnifiers are also available. The search room is open: Tuesday - Friday: 9.30am - 4.30pm. Late evening
On one evening each month, the search room facilities remain open until 9.00pm, but you must book in advance. Ask the Archivist
