The Kennaway collection contains photographs taken between 1928 and 1977. R W Kennaway had a lifelong love of ships and the sea. As a young man he joined Blue Star Line but after a single trip to South Africa, decided that kind of lifestyle would not suit him and he chose a shore-based career. He retained his great enthusiasm for shipping and continued to photograph and record the shipping scene in and around Southampton until his retirement in 1977.
