World Ship Society

The World Ship Society has an extensive collection of photographs of ships in its World Ship Photo Library. It is looked after by a team of dedicated volunteers, who add new images sent in by Society members and answer enquiries from them. There are over a million images in the Photo Library, in colour and black and white; as prints, negatives or slide transparencies. The ships range from large passenger liners and warships, to colliers, dredgers and small coasters. A selection of these are chosen for the PortCities Southampton site, to illustrate the ships and shipping lines associated with the port (especially in the 1930s and 1940s). This gallery presents just a few of these, to show the scope of the library.
If you are a World Ship Society member, you can request a search of the WSPL holdings for images of a particular ship. Regular Members' Offers make postcards available at reasonable cost.
