Southampton City Libraries
Southampton City Libraries is the lead partner in the Plimsoll
Partnership. Its Maritime Collection is one of Britain`s largest
specialist shipping libraries open to the public. |

Southampton Archives Services
Southampton City Archives collects, catalogues and conserves
archival material for the City of Southampton. Some of their
records go back over 800 years. Members of the public are welcome
to visit the Archives search room where items in the collection can
be consulted. |
Southampton City Museums
Southampton City Museums run the city's Maritime Museum, home to
exciting displays on all aspects of the port's maritime history.
They also staff the Collections Management Centre, where many
different objects are looked after to give an insight into the
social and industrial past of Southampton. |
Southampton Oral History Unit
Southampton is one of the few local authorities in the UK to have
an oral history programme. Over 900 life stories have been recorded
and 6000 photographs collected, covering 1890 to the present
and providing a unique insight into the social history of
Southampton. The importance of giving local people a voice is
reflected in the strength of their testimonies. |
Lloyd`s Register
Lloyd's Register is a risk management organisation providing risk
assessment and mitigation around the world. Founded in 1760 to
examine and classify merchant ships, the organisation's activities
now extend beyond the shipping field. Lloyd's
Register publishes an annual 'Register of Ships', still
the foremost source of information on the world's merchant fleet. |

London Metropolitan Archive
London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) is the largest local authority
record office in the United Kingdom. There are 32 miles of archives
in their strong rooms, covering nearly 900 years. The LMA is ‘The
Memory of London’, with an extraordinary range of archives touching
every aspect of London life and history. |
National Maritime Museum
The National Maritime Museum`s collection contains over two million
objects connected with the sea and timekeeping. The museum has the
most important holdings in the world on the history of Britain at
sea, including art, maps, ship plans and scientific
instruments. Entrance is free and over 7500 objects are available
to view online at its website. |

World Ship Society
The World Ship Society is the largest international organisation
dedicated to maritime and naval history. The society is noted for
its extensive list of publications, library and collection of
photographs. Branch meetings throughout the world allow members to
share their experience and joy of shipping. |
