| Unique ID: | 1847 | | Description: | Photograph. Peartree House was built in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, probably between 1590-1600. Its builder and owner was Frances Mylles, tenant of Bitterne Manor House. Mylles used stones from Clausentum to build the house. In the 19th century General Shrapnel, inventor of the Shrapnel Shell, lived at the house, and died there in 1842. In the 1930s the estate was sold off for housing development. The council bought the house in 1949 and converted it into a home for the elderly. | | Creator: | Unknown | | Date: | 1941 | | Copyright: | World Ship Society | | Partner: | SCC Libraries | | Partner ID: | Unknown |
