Unique ID:283
Description:Drawn by grose engraved by. God's House Tower and Gate are situated at the south east angle of the town walls. The gate was built in the late 13th century - early 14th century; the tower and adjoining wall were built in the 15th century to strengthen the gate's flank defence. The gate and tower were named after nearby God's House Hospital. In the 18th century the complex was used as the town gaol. This illustration depicts the tower just before it became a gaol. In later illustrations the windows have been altered and the two lean-tos on the south and east walls have been demolished.
