"ARGYLE" (S.S.)
REPORT of the Marine Board of New South Wales in the matter of the sinking of the "ARGYLE."
The Board held an investigation into the circumstances connected with the sinking of this vessel, and found that she was a screw steamer of 139 tons, registered in Melbourne, owned by Messrs. Nipper and See, and insured. She was on a voyage laden with produce from Grafton, bound to Sidney, and whilst on her way to sea struck on a rock, near Rocky Mouth, and afterwards sank in deep water. The Board reported that the vessel was lost in consequence of striking on a rock in the Clarence River, and from being placed on a spot on the river bank from which she slid off and sank in deep water, and that no evidence had been adduced upon which to found a charge of default against Thomas Boyd the master.
