There've been vast changes in the docks since my young days. In
the ... young days, everything was handled but right through the
years they've been changin' with labour saving devices, ...
scooters we called them, and fork trucks, and various cranes of
different kinds, and not only that, the pattern of the cargo has
changed. It's changed ... to the extent that men don't have to lift
heavy cases these days. Anything big or heavy is containerised or
put on a fork truck platform, and so men rarely have to handle
cargo as such. In other words, all the hard work has gone out of
the docks today.
